Decadence
I am happy as a clam
Standing at my grocery stand,
Brie and Gouda sold
Each day of every week.
Down the isle a passion fruit
From a thousand-mile pursuit
On trains and planes
Shines proudly at my feet.
How not laboring for these goods is such a treat.
Oh, my goodness all this food is hard to beat.
Send those groceries to my door
So I can swipe and still explore;
Bring me shrimp-kabobs
Pre-seasoned as a treat.
I don’t have to get out in this sweltering heat.
Oh, someone else is gonna get up on those feet.
But should the power cut off soon
Due to all that we consume
Like the growing count of
EVs on our streets,
And the solar flares balloon
Or the earth spins new typhoons,
All these coolers will stand
Full of rotten meat.
All these shrimp won’t snap their tails
In full retreat.
All this produce won’t last long
Out on the street.
All this cheese will start to smell
Like dirty feet.
Man will step back a hundred years in just one beat.
Lord, people are gonna take it to the street.

“If you have had the opportunity to travel around the world a bit, I would argue that you may come to appreciate returning home and appreciating aspects of U.S. citizenry that we can sometime take for granted - like personal property rights, or free markets, and oftentimes there is a contrast, especially when it comes to things like access to food. I would go so far as to argue that in the US our grocers throw away more eatable produce because it does not appear perfect, then some grocers around the world can even access. This luxury of modern convenience is something worthy of exploring.”
